All of last week, Stagecoach North East hosted Santa's Grotto on board the Stagecoach Christmas Bus, which once again was the appropriately adorned Transbus Dart SLF 34611.

The Christmas Bus first visited Stockton High Street on 14th & 15th December before spending 17th-23rd December on Newcastle's Grainger Street. This year's chosen charities were The Chronicle Sunshine Fund, Northumbria Blood Bikes and Daisy Chain.

FURTHER FACELIFTS      18 November 2018

The latest vehicles to be repainted at Walkergate are Enviro400H deckers 12064 and 12075, both of which have lost their green in favour of standard corporate livery.

The final touches are just being made to the first part of an exciting new feature for the site, tracking the history of Stagecoach UK Bus, from it's humble beginnings as Gloagtrotter, a caravan rental business, back in 1976. To complete the feature a number of photos are required to illustrate the fleet it's earliest years - many have already been kindly shared and a listing is available of those vehicles for which photos are still sought - if you're able to help please get in contact.

SOUND MOVE      18 November 2018

MORE MOVES      3 November 2018

A further exchange has seen Slatyford receive Enviro200 36471 from South Shields, in exchange for MAN 14.240 A69 39719, leaving the exchange of 36473 with 39715 as the last remaining outstanding on Tyneside. Meanwhile, Sunderland have received MAN 14.240 A69 39674 from Hartlepool, with 36082 likely to have moved in the opposite direction. Just 36081/86 remain at Sunderland for exchange with Hartlepool's 39675 and 39712.

In other news, Sunderland's 28011 is the latest to be repainted to corporate livery, while troubled Omnilink 24002 appears to be undergoing repair at Sunderland.

THE MISSING PINK      28 October 2018

Slatyford's Enviro300 bodied MAN 18.240 A69's 24114 and 24115 have both lost their shocking pink branding advertising the Great Exhibition of the North. 24114 was parked up at the rear of the depot today while 24115 was tucked away in the workshops, having been similarly debranded.

SWAP SITREP      24 October 2018

Further to the update posted on Sunday, Hartlepool have now taken delivery of and entered into serivce former Sunderland based 36087 and 36088 with 39671 and 39711 moving in the opposite direction. This leaves just 36081/82/86 to be exchanged for 39674/75 & 39712. On Tyneside the only outstanding exchanges are 39715/19 due to head from Slatyford to South Shields with 36471/73 due to switch places with them. In other news, Slatyford's 22510 finally returned to service today after months of absence, operating the Express boards.

ENVIRO EXCHANGE      21 October 2018

Four of the North East depots are currently engaged in a seemingly pointless exchange of almost identical vehicles, understood to be taking place to rebalance fleet age profiles across the depots. Hartlepool and Slatyford are very much the winners in this process, receiving 59- and 61- plate integral Enviro200s from Sunderland and South Shields, respectively. Slightly older Enviro200 bodied MAN 14.240 A66's are moving in the opposite direction, with 20 vehicles being shuffled around as a result.

Hartlepool are gaining 36081-36090 from Sunderland, with 36083, 36084, 36085, 36089 & 36090 having entered service in the town to date. In exchange, Sunderland are due to receive 39671-39675 and 39710-39714, of which 39672, 39673, 39710, 39713 & 39714 have arrived in Sunderland.

In the other exchange, Slatyford are receiving 36468-36477 from South Shields, of which 36468, 36469, 36470, 36472, 36474, 36475, 36476 & 36477 have entered service in the city so far. These will be replaced in South Shields by 39705, 39706 & 39715-39722, with 39705, 39706, 39716, 39717, 39718, 39720, 39721 & 39722 now in service south of the Tyne.

RESERVES & REPAINT NEWS      21 October 2018

Previously reported withdrawn MAN 18.220 A69 22412 remains out of use at Slatyford, with it's condition visually deteriorating. Reserve Enviro200 36466 is currently at Sunderland, undergoing mechanical repairs, while long-time withdrawn 22031 appears to be undergoing cannibalisation at Slatyford.

The latest bus to emerge from the paintshops is Sunderland gasbus 28013, now sporting corporate livery and bringing the number so treated to 16.

In other news, former Yorkshire MAN 18.220 A69 22428 entered service on 9 October, operating alongside Walkergate's 22024 on loan to Slatyford on the Express boards. It is captured here in North Kenton a few days later, operating Services 10/11.

NEWCASTLE NOTES      24 September 2018

The latest repaints at Newcastle comprise Enviro 400H 12085, completed in late August and 12069, repainted this month. In addition to the repaints, MAN 18.220 A69 22412 has been out of use at Slatyford for several weeks now, ticket machine removed.

NEWish ARRIVALS      16 September 2018

After something of a quiet summer, Stagecoach North East has recently taken delviery of a pair of MAN18.220 A69 saloons from Stagecoach Yorkshire. The pair, 22424 and 22428 are currently at Sunderland undergoing preparation for service, ultimately destined for Newcastle where they will assist in covering the increased PVR resulting from the successful tendering for eight scholars services.

This evening saw a rare occurrence as Stagecoach operated Metro replacement Service 900. As part of the systemwide modernisation works on Metro, a £12 million train management system is to be installed over this weekend, necessitating closure of parts of the network. From around 7:30pm, all trains between Benton and St James were suspended, with Stagecoach operating replacement bus service 900 between Four Lane Ends and Monument. From 10:30pm there will be no trains systemwide, through until around 10-11am on Sunday morning. This evening will not see additional replacement bus services over the remainder of the network, while tomorrow morning, there will be no fewer than five replacement bus services in operation. Services 900 through 904 will be operated by Go North East (900 & 901) and Arriva North East (902-904).

This evening's operation required an allocation of 19 vehicles, which were sourced from both Slatyford and Walkergate. The majority of runs were operated by Enviro400MMCs (10631, 10636, 10638, 10641, 10643, 10648, 10651, 10652 & 10654) and Enviro400Hs (12061, 12064, 12070, 12074, 12076, 12080, 12082, 12084 & 12086) with a single conventional Enviro400 (19437) making up the balance.

RECENT REPAINTS      23 July 2018

A pair of Slatyford's Enviro300s 24114 and 24115 have received all-over pink liveries promoting the damp squib that is the Great Exhibition of the North.

Meanwhile the latest corporate repaint is that of South Shield's Enviro300 27734, the completion of which means that there are now fewer branded than corporate liveried members of the batch remaining.

As the Newcastle Service 1 PVR decreased for the University summer holidays, a pair of Enviro400 deckers were temporarily released at Walkergate, with 19434 heading to Slatyford and 19443 to South Shields. The latter will provide much needed additional capacity on the Economics between South Shields and Sunderland, while the former will provide a temporary capacity increase at Slatyford.

The Wheatsheaf paintshops have been busy over the last few weeks with no less than five vehicles losing branding in favour of corporate livery so far in June. The three most recent are Walkergate's 12066, South Shields' 27733 and Sunderland's 28024, which join 12073 & 28036 which were noted in the Vehicle Profiles earlier this month.

The last MAN 14.240 indigenous to Sunderland, 39727, has departed and joined the fleet at Slatyford. There has been no replacement at Sunderland and no apparent resulting withdrawal as yet at Slatyford.

FEELING BLUE?      10 June 2018

Although not yet publicised, the City Sightseeing Newcastle Gateshead operation will be expanding from 22 June 2018. For the first time in a decade, a second route will operate, with the resurrection of the Red Route and the new Blue Route. The existing route (CS1) will be named the Red Route while a new service, CS2, will be introduced serving Ouseburn. The Blue Route last operated, albeit on a different footprint, back in 2008. The Blue Route will operate half hourly, using a single vehicle. During the summer peak, the City Sightseeing PVR will be 3. With both services operating 7 days per week and only one spare vehicle, it will be interesting to observe whether all runs are open top operated. The Blue Route will run until 8th September.

An unexpected visitor at Slatyford depot is Alexander ALX400 bodied Dennis Trident 17430 LX51FKD, latterly operating with Stagecoach East Scotland, from where it was sold to Ferrymill Motors (Glasgow) in March 2018. The vehicle is currently parked up at Slatyford, still in full Stagecoach livery complete with fleetnumber. The reason for this vehicle's presence at Slatyford is unknown.

IT'S ALL GONE A BIT YUTONG      24 April 2018

Following directly from a period with Go North East, Stagecoach North East has acquired fully-electric Yutong E12 demonstrator YK66CBC. Having spent the day in the depot undergoing preparation service, it now carries a small Stagecoach logo and has ticketing equipment fitted. The vehicle will see use on Service 100, though due to the unusually small destination display, it is likely that only the terminal destination point will be displayed.

SLATYFORD SWAPS      24 April 2018

Change continues apace at Slatyford as the Kinetic cull continues. 22514 joins 22515 in moving South to Teesside, with 22066 joining 22065 on Tyneside in exchange. Both ALX300s have entered service at Slatyford while neither Kinetic has yet graced the streets of Teesside. At least when they do, the plumes of black smog that follow the batch will not be out of place in their new environs!

Walkergate have also shared in the pain, receiving 22512 & 22513 from Slatyford, with ALX300 bodied 22341 & 22342 moving in the opposite direction.
These changes have left Slatyford services Kinetic free for now, with the four remaining members of the batch seemingly requiring attention in the depot for the last few weeks...

Now Slatyford-based 22066 is seen looking smart in Newcastle City Centre as it heads for West Denton Shops operating a 11.

Another new arrival at Slatyford, former Walkergate based 22341 is seen operating Service 10 on Grainger Street, heading for West Denton Park.

Also in use at Slatyford this weekend, Walkergate-based 22022 was standing in for a regular vehicle on the Slatyford expresses on Saturday.

MAN MOVES      15 April 2018

It's been all stations go at Slatyford this week as the last Kinetic 22511 finally entered service, some 22 months after arriving in the region! Worry not though, after one day's service, the heap was parked up in it familiar space against the rear fence of the depot, preumably taking a not so well earned rest!

Slatyford's 22511, complete with ticketing equipment at last, seen resting in the depot the day after it's debut in service.

Photo © Stagecoach North East Bus Depot 2018

Sadly the long awaited debut of 22511 did not result in the batch being reunited in service at Slatyford as the same day saw 22515 transfer to Teesside, with ALX300 bodied 22065 making the move in the opposite direction.

Slatyford's latest arrival, 22065 is seen operating Service X47 arriving at Kingston Park.

REPAINT RALLY      8 April 2018

The paintshops at the Wheatsheaf continue apace following the strategic agenda to get the leet into standard corporate livery. The latest pair, 12086 and 28037 - both fresh out of the paintshop - were on display at the Stockton Depot Open Day held today to mark the 50 year anniversary of Teesside Municipal Transport. A complete event report will be posted soon; in the meantime, the photos below depict the fresh look for this pair of vehicles.

BACK IN SERVICE      23 March 2018

Following an extended period out of use, Slatyford's 22345 has returned to service, pictured below operating on Service X87 today. Meanwhile, similar 22022 has returned from Slatyford to Walkergate.

ENVIRO EXCEPTION!      14 March 2018

While the majority of the Newcastle fleet is composed of Enviro's, one very definitely not ENVIROnmentally friendly return to service is Slatyford's 22508. This heap has once again returned to the main service fleet following a period out of service with engine problems. Based on the plumes of thick black smoke emitted every time the vehicle accelerates, the problems appear unresolved despite it's return! These two shots illustrate the vehicle, in operation today on the Slatyford expresses, the second shot showing the very visible pollution of the air of Newcastle's outer west end, complete with filthy rear end where soot deposits appear to have been (badly) cleaned away.

Walkergate's 12063 has emerged from the paintshops as expected wearing corporate livery. It returned to service yesterday, looking immaculate on Service 22.

Meanwhile, at South Shields 19642 continues to receive mechanical attention at Dean Road.

In other news, last seen as a Christmas collection point in Newcastle, then back to storage at Sunderland, 34611 is now at South Shields depot.

WE'RE HERE TO GET YOU THERE      4 March 2018

Thanks to everyone who took the time to complete our user survey last year. Your feedback has been very useful and work has been going on behind the scenes to deliver some improvements as a result. One of the most frequent bits of feedback was around navigation of the site on mobile and tablet devices - the site menus (and some of the layout) has been revamped, and hopefully accessibility should have significantly improved. Please let us know whether the changes have improved your mobile browsing experience, or indeed if you are still experiencing issues.

Your feedback indicated that the Fleet Stats section wasn't popular so this feature has been discontinued, though fleet age/spares information has been incorporated into the Operations Profiles. As one door closes, however, another opens - watch this space for more information on exciting new features being developed in response to suggestions made in the User Survey. The survey responses indicated you loved our photos so we've made some big improvements to photos across the site, including increasing their number and providing direct access to full-size versions. Don't forget to let us know what you think!

SINGLE DECK SWAP      4 March 2018

For reasons unknown, Stagecoach in Newcastle are converting Service 18 to double deck operation, despite the majority of trips struggling to attract loads sufficient to fill a minibus. Despite the lack of demand (peak times excepted), Walkergate are sending MAN 18.220 A69s to Slatyford in exchange for deckers. The first swap saw 19204 return to Walkergate with 22343 heading to Slatyford. More recently 22022 has transferred to Slatyford; it is not yet known which decker - which could arguably be much better used on the Slatyford expresses - will be transferring to Walkergate in exchange.
