As the initial five Alexander Dennis Enviro300's to be operated by Stagecoach North East, this batch are built on a fully integrated chassis and body design, produced as a new full size easyACCESS single deck option. These vehicles were delivered from new to Slatyford in 2005, for use on MetroCentre Shuttle
Service 100. The vehicles were
delivered in Stagecoach in Newcastle livery complete with The One Hundred
branding, identical to that previously worn by MANs 22067-71.
The vehicles were delivered to current Stagecoach corporate specifications, with blue interior and individual seating with the blue Stagecoach moquette. They entered service with orange uppercase, non-scrolling destination displays.
The arrival of the Enviro300s at Slatyford ousted MANs 22067-71 from Service 100, and the depot, as they were transferred to Walkergate to enable the easyACCESS conversion of Service 22.
During Spring 2007, the displays of the batch were reprogrammed to display Sentence Case text, with scrolling capability enabled.
Autumn 2010 saw the batch receive a repaint which included comprehensive rebranding, still for MetroCentre Shuttle Service 100, to a striking two tone blue livery with reflective silver and purple detail. In February 2013, the batch were again repainted. 27506/07/10 emerged first, in base colours which were a modification on the corporate livery (minus the orange) without branding. In March 2013, the full batch received a third generation of the 100 branding.
During November/December 2013, the batch had wifi equipment installed, providing free internet access for passengers on the short route from Newcastle City Centre to Gateshead's Metrocentre.
Winter 2016 saw an upgrade for Service 100 with the arrival of newer MAN 18.240 A69 engined Enviro 300's from East Scotland. The first three entered service in November 2016, leading to the withdrawal of 27506/07/09, followed in December by 27510. 27508 was withdrawn in January 2017. December 2016 saw the first of the batch, 27506, repainted and transferred to Stockton where it replaced MAN 18.220 A69 22014. 27509 was similarly repainted and entered service at Stockton in January 2017, replacing MAN 18.220 A69 22017. A freshly repainted 27510 entered service on Teesside in March 2017, replacing MAN 18.220 A69 22015, though 27510 was subequently withdrawn in April and remains off the road. Also in April 2017, 27507 entered service on Teesside following repaint, while 27508, though repainted, has yet to enter service.
These two shots effectively illustrate the most recent branding (27508, right) and the eyecatching effect of the metallic two-tone blue livery previously carried by these vehicles (27507, left).
