INTRODUCTION
Stagecoach
in Newcastle launched the Quaylink operation on 22nd July 2005. The service is based at Walkergate
and is a joint venture between Stagecoach North East, Newcastle City Council,
Gateshead Council, Nexus and the Department of Transport.
Two
routes are operated, with a combined PVR of 8 and an allocation of 10
hybrid-electric vehicles and 3 Dennis Darts as spares.

Fleet Profile
The
original 10 Quaylink vehicles are low emission, hybrid electric, easyACCESS
MAN/Designline single decks which carry the eye-catching yellow and black
livery of Quaylink. September 2008 saw
the repaint of two K-registered high floor short Dennis Darts (32112 &
32134) to Quaylink livery. December 2008
saw 32121 join the other two Darts in the Quaylink fleet. These vehicles serve as spares for the
Quaylink operation, though since their transfer to Quaylink it has not been
uncommon to see one or more in regular service.
The
Designlines have orange Sentence Case scrolling destination blinds, while the
three Darts have yellow UPPERCASE non-scrolling destination blinds.

Where
to go…
…
for Sightings
As
illustrated on the route map above, the two services run along the same route
between the Quayside and the Theatre Royal, making any point along this stretch
(Side, Dean Street, Grey Street to Market Street) ideal for sightings.
…
for Photos
Q1 is best caught as it travels South down Grainger Street, toward Central Station. The best shots of Q2 to be had are around St Mary’s Place/Percy Street just before Haymarket Bus Station, John Dobson Street or along the Quayside. Alternatively, both services can be photographed on their way down Gray Street.
